A few thoughts:
Pretty good! Id say this is right middle of the line for your 2022 discography. I like the main melody and it does a really good job at setting up this story like structure, the offdrops especially
A few complaints though:
1: The drums. Lots of weird choices here, specifically the snare, which is almost as weak as my social life, and the buildup percs being mixed in really weak.
2: idk if the ending is highpassed on purpose but yeah uhh its a lil weird as is
3: the drops can be really empty at times, especially in the second drop, and thats i think due to just how thin and subby the bass is. I think a neurofunk bass would have made this a lot better tbh

Anyhow thats all for my rambles. Really cool song overall, good luck on nguac!!

Wooah this slaps! The two genres actually blend really well, props to making it work. Sound design in general is absoloutly top notch, especially the wobbly basses n shit. Amazing remix, will check out the rest of your discog!!

CrowdDoll responds:

Damn thanks

Damn, how did I miss this!! This is incredible, the melody progresses so naturally, and the key changes work in its favor a ton! I like how it balances between adventurous and melodic, its a really thin line but you've seemed to nail it! Just, keep on making these mini stories, they're incredible and I really dont find much music like this being made nowadays.

ChronoNomad responds:

Whoa, you totally showed up! Suffice to say, your review has definitely brightened up my day. I can't say how you missed this either, especially since I almost always make something for Pixel Day, but I'm glad that you found your way here. Your kind words are generous and encouraging, and I truly appreciate your patronage. Thanks, man.

Cool catchy glitch hop!!
(but seriously anubis is the most strange possible name you could give this, should reserved it for arabian dubstep when i inevitably pressure you to do that)

Synfang responds:

There's a reason I chose that name, even if it's not so apparent to most.

Those are some spicy chops my god--

Finally, a song named after me!

THE RETURN!!!
This is a really nice little beat you made here. I love the main melody and how it progresses as always, even in only a minute and a half you make it feel like a story, which is really impressive. I love the guitars especially, theyre a really nice touch.
If I had to critique anything, it'd be that the snare design seems like it would be used for something more upbeat, but its low enough in the mix for me to give it a pass.
Overall, this just has this really nice and relaxing atmosphere that I don't often see, I can see myself using this to clear my head for whatever reason. Hats off to you, you're always great at making atmosphere and this is no exception!

ChronoNomad responds:

Who, what? Oh...me! Yes, I suppose it's been a hot minute since I dropped a track here on good ol' Newgrounds. I'm never too far away, though.

Thanks a bunch for the lovely review, and oddly enough I've gone rather back and forth on that snare. I mostly like it, but at times it doesn't seem like the perfect fit. In the end, I just decided to accept my ambivalence as an inevitable part of the process and moved forward with submission. And here you are! So, all in all, I'm glad that I did.

It's so nice to hear that listeners enjoy the relaxed mood and borderline minimalist lack of instrumental clutter. It's totally a vibe. Hey, wait a minute--are you even wearing a hat? xD

Synfang responds:

Nice spelling error, but I'll take the compliment anyway. XD

Synfang responds:

Thanks, I guess. XD

First things first, easily the best melody you've made. Its creative, atmospheric, and everything sounds better in harmonic :P
Nice mixing, not perfect as it can be muddy in some parts (buildup go brr)
sound design is cool but why would you chose a generic techno drop lead for a spoopy themed song
But, im sorry to say...
My big ol issue is the mastering and atmosphere. The entire song sounds... idk, exactly the same energy, volume, and intensity the entire time, which, for a song like this, is a HUGE issue. The begginign should feel dystopian, spooky, and mysterious, with a low volume and the drop should feel like a heavy twist on that beginning, which just works backwards if the entire song is quiet asf. It ruins the atmosphere and it was hard to get invested when it felt like nothing was really happening, even though i know the mood changed drastically (or, supposed to, anyway). It also makes the buildup-drop transition feel awkward, as in it feels like little to no change, which ruins any intensity the song was trying to convey. This, and the slightly confusing sound design choice in the drop, makes the atmosphere feel muddled, and took me out of the song.

I'm sure with a few tweaks this could go straight to my bangers playlist, but as is, it felt a bit underwhelming. Still though, spoopy melody, solid mixing, and overall creativity boost it quite a bit. 4/5, i really hope a VIP comes sometime soon

Have a great day :D
